Comp Time definition

Comp Time means paid time off granted to an employee in lieu of overtime pay. This is also commonly referred to as Chit within the department.
Comp Time shall be taken at a time approved by the employee’s supervisor or his designate.
Comp Time earned for hours qualifying as “Overtime” under this contract will be calculated at time and one half. An employee will not be allowed to accumulate more than eighty (80) hours of compensatory time. Comp time in excess of eighty (80) hours will be paid in the pay period immediately following the period in which the excess comp time is earned, unless the employee and Department Head (or his/her representative) mutually agree on a time when the excess comp time will be used. In no case will comp time over eighty (80) hours be carried for more than two pay periods. At the Employee’s request up to 40 hours of accrued Comp Time will be paid to the employee on the payroll following the employee’s anniversary date.

  • An employee who is taking leave for the adoption or foster care of a child must use all leave accruals (PTO/CAT, Comp Time) prior to being eligible for unpaid leave.

  • The policy must include a provision that states that no employee may be forced or coerced to accept Comp Time in lieu of payment.

  • The policy must provide that the employees be allowed to use the Comp Time within a reasonable period after the employee makes a request for its use if that will not unduly disrupt the operations of the department.The Commission may approve or reject any such policy at its sole discretion.

  • Additionally, once such employees have worked 160 hours of overtime, they may accumulate no more Comp Time.

  • Employees who are ineligible for overtime pay shall be eligible for Comp Time pay.

  • Comp Time should only be approved to perform critical, time-sensitive excepted activities that cannot be accomplished within the employee’s regular work schedule.

  • Employee Compensatory Time (Comp Time) and Credit Hours: Excepted staff may request and earn Comp Time and/or Credit Hours in the shutdown period.

  • Unpaid leave shall be authorized only after the exhaustion of all other available paid leaves including Comp Time.

Comp Time refers to time given in lieu of monetary compensation for work done beyond the employee's contractual work day.
