Each program and applicant also authorizes the NRMP to use any information provided by such program or applicant to the NRMP, including but not limited to USMLE scores, COMLEX scores, AOA membership, volunteer and work experiences, in any study approved by the NRMP, provided that no information clearly and uniquely identifiable with such program or applicant is disclosed in reports resulting from such study.
The resident must pass USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 within three attempts after becoming eligible to take the exam and before starting the PGYII year.
Passage of Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 is required for promotion to PGYII.
Three failures on USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 are grounds for due process including extending residency.

Residents who cannot be promoted to the PGY 3 level on June 24/July 1 due to failure to secure a passing USMLE III or COMLEX III score may not be renewed as a PGY 2 per the Program Director’s discretion.
In addition to meeting promotional criteria as descripted in Appendix D, residents must achieve a passing score on USMLE II or COMLEX II to advance to the PGY 2 year.
