The Committee shall maintain close contact with the relevant international organizations in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary protection, especially with the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the International Office of Epizootics, and the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention, with the objective of securing the best available scientific and technical advice for the administration of this Agreement and in order to ensure that unnecessary duplication of effort is avoided.
The Parties shall cooperate in relevant international bodies engaged in work on SPS related issues, including the WTO SPS Committee, the various Codex Committees (including the Codex Alimentarius Commission), the International Plant Protection Convention, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and other international and regional fora on food safety and human, animal and plant life or health.

For the purposes of this Chapter, "international standards" means the standards, guidelines and recommendations of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the relevant international and regional Organisations operating within the framework of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
For the purpose of this Chapter, standards issued, in particular, by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) shall be considered as relevant international standards in the sense of Article 2.4 of the TBT Agreement.
