CGT event definition

CGT event means any of the CGT events described in Division 104. A CGT event described by number (for example: CGT event A1 ) refers to the relevant event in that Division.

Examples of CGT event in a sentence

  • In Taxation Determination TD 2008/22, the Commissioner states that an Investor’s rights under a deferred purchase agreement constitute a discrete CGT asset and the delivery of the Delivery Assets on Maturity triggers CGT event C2 for the Investor.

  • Any subsequent disposal of the Delivery Assets by an Investor should constitute a CGT event at the time the contract for disposal is executed.

  • An Investor should be assessed on any capital gain made from the CGT event.

  • If the delivery of the Delivery Assets is a CGT event (as per TD 2008/22), then the Investor’s cost base in the Delivery Assets should be their market value at the time of delivery.

  • Capital gains tax advantage: When an individual dies, this is regarded as a CGT event where CGT is calculated and paid on all the deceased’s assets.

  • An example of a notional gain would be a capital gain which arises under s 104-175 of the ITAA 1997 in respect of CGT event J1.

  • In particular, neither ▇▇▇▇▇▇ nor Acquireco will make a choice under subsection 124-795(4) of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 such that Mandalay Shareholders could not obtain a roll-over under Subdivision 124-M in respect of the CGT event happening in relation to the exchange of Mandalay Shares.

  • The capital proceeds of the CGT event should be the consideration price of $1.83 per Share (less the cash amount of the Special Dividend) received by the Royal Wolf Shareholder in respect of the disposal of the Royal Wolf Shares.
