Building material stores definition

Building material stores. (land use) means primarily indoor retail establishments selling lumber and other large building materials, and also including paint, car- pets, cabinets, doors, flooring, windows, wallpaper, glass, fixtures, nursery stock, lawn and garden supplies (which may also be sold in hardware stores, included under the definition ofRetail stores, general merchan- dise”). Includes all such stores selling to the general public, even if contractor sales account for a larger pro- portion of total sales. Also includes incidental retail ready-mix concrete operations. At least twenty-five (25) percent of the floor area must be dedicated to retail sales. Establishments that have more outdoor than in- door storage and sales areas are included under “Storage yards and sales lots.”

Establishments primarily selling electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning equipment and supplies are classified in "warehousing, wholesaling and distribution." Hardware stores are listed in the definition of "general retail," even if they sell some building materials.
Building material stores means businesses open to the public that engage in the sale of building materials including lumber, fencing, glass, doors, plumbing fixtures and supplies, electrical supplies, prefabricated buildings and kits, kitchen and bath cabinets and countertops, and other large building materials. This use also permits the sale of paint, wallpaper, plants, and other garden supplies (which may also be sold in hardware stores, included under the definition ofRetail Stores, General Merchandise”). Establishments primarily selling electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning equipment and supplies are classified in “Wholesaling and Distribution.” (NAICS codes: 444120, 444180, and 532420)
