Buddha definition

Buddha means “awakened one.” The Sanskrit root “budd” means “awaken.” “Bodhi” is the word we usually translate as enlightenment, and it means, literally, “awakening.” So, “buddha” is “awakened one” or “awakened mind.” It’s not just an awakened person, but the quality of being awake and aware. So for us “Buddha” means great awakened mind. The historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, represents the possibility of a human being to fully awaken in this lifetime. Shakyamuni is an archetypal representation of our own potential.
Buddha means "Enlightened."
Buddha means enlightened, awakened or fully awake. He who is free from daydreaming. Free from the obscurities that cloud the mind. Aware and fully present. Now, anyone whose mind is full of greed, anger, and ignorance are akin to someone lost in a daydream. Daydreaming will fill your heart. Daydreaming will cause your mind to be full of fears. The day you become free from these poisonous roots known as greed, anger and delusion, you will no longer be daydreaming. Only then will you become fully awake. The day you become awake, the day you become enlightened, wisdom, light and love will stand firmly where the snares of greed, anger and delusion once held ground.

Buddha means enlightened one
Buddha means "one who is awakened." Once you have awakened, your own mind is itself Buddha. By seeking outside yourself for a Buddha invested with form, you are proclaiming yourself a foolish man. It is like a person who wants to catch a fish. He must start by looking in the water, because fish live in the water and are not found apart from it. If a person wants to find Buddha he must look into his own mind, because it is there and nowhere else that Buddha exists.
Buddha means someone who understands (S. budh), not partially but fully, not in the least confused but totally clear-minded. According to Buddhism, Shakyamuni Buddha is the only one in this world who has realized perfect and complete enlightenment. He is “this one person who arises in the world for the welfare of the multitude, out of compassion for the world, for the good, welfare, and happiness of Gods and Humans” (AN xiii 1).
Buddha means the "Awakened One". Bodhi is a Sanskrit term meaning intelligence, perfect knowledge or revelation. In Buddhism, it refers to deliverance, enlightenment, or the state of awakening of a person freed from samsara, the cycle of rebirth and the whirlwind of passions. It is thus a question of following this path in order to awaken oneself. It is also called the "middle path" because it avoids the two extremes of pursuing happiness in dependence on the pleasure of the senses on the one hand, and on the other hand, pursuing liberation in the practice of asceticism and mortification. Having experienced these two extremes, the Buddha discovered the Noble path "which gives vision and knowledge, which leads to calm, deep vision and nirvana".
Buddha is a Sanskrit word that means “fully awakened.” It refers not only to Shakyamuni, or Guatama, the founder of the teachings that came to be known as Buddhism, but also to any person who attains enlightenment. There are numberless enlightened beings - beings who have completely transformed their minds, eliminated all negative energy and become whole, perfect. They are not confined to a transient, physical body as we are, but are free from death and rebirth. They can abide in a state of pure consciousness, or appear in different forms - a sunset, music, a beggar, a teacher - in order to communicate their wisdom and love to ordinary beings. They are the very essence of compassion and wisdom, and their energy is all around us, all the time.
Buddha means one who has woken up, not just bleary-eyed from a sleep, but metaphorically and here it gets interesting because all words are metaphors really, they're not the experience, so we have metaphors about metaphors about metaphors, but we need these things, we need these words. These words can confuse us which is always good because when we're confused we've dropped a certain set of assumptions and beliefs we might have, something's happened, we can no longer hang onto: “Well this is the way it is because I believe it” because something has started to open that and we're left with nothing to hang on to.
Buddha means “one who is awake.” Gautama Buddha was a contemporary of Mahavira.
