Bedding Sand definition
Bedding Sand will be measured for payment by the lineal metre along that portion of the installed pipeline where bedding sand is required, measured horizontally along the pipe centreline, with no deductions for fittings supported by sand. The measurement will represent all of the sand required for the Bedding Zone and Initial Backfill Zone. Payment shall be at the unit price per lineal metre bid therefor in the Unit Price Table. The price shall include all costs for performing the work as specified herein and as shown on the drawings.

Placing and Screeding of Bedding Sand The thickness of the sand bed after compaction should be in the range of 20-40 mm, whereas, in the loose form it can be 25 to 50 mm.
Pipe Bedding Sand should be free from rocks or objects which could puncture or deform the bedded pipe with a 4” cover on all sides before refilling begins.
If in the opinion of the Engineer, the excavated material does not meet the requirements then Bedding Sand shall be used.
