Baro Halam definition
Baro Halam means „twelve tribes‟. According to H.M. Bareh, The Halams are one of the earliest to have settled in Tripura. In the state itself, the Halams roamed from one hillock to hillock in search of land suitable for jhum cultivation. They are reputed to have been a ferocious people who used to kill strangers.
