Before that we have heard lots of news that in which students threatened their teachers as the teachers have prohibited them from doing cheating. Ministers are involved in rampant corruption. Why this is happening? Who are responsible for this? and how can we get rid of this? Answer to all these questions can be traced from the views and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi- The great soul. Mahatma Gandhi does not need any introduction. He is such a beacon light whom we can follow blindly in each and every walk of our lives. It is Gandhi who has taught us about the importance of value education. For Gandhi Education must include two essential ingredients i.e. morality and ethics. For Gandhi education does not mean only knowledge of letters but education means a holistic development. It is a development of mind, body and spirit. Real education leads a man towards higher moral character. Real education inculcates into a human being fervour of social duties and responsibilities towards society. It does not only produce educated man but it does produce a social man who will undertake his or her social responsibility so that a, just society can be created. And all these is related or can be achieved through the impartation of value education. For Gandhi there is no alternative to value education. It must include vocational Education and craft-based education along with education on inter religious faith. Thus, value education will generate among students the feelings of tolerance, perseverance, compassion, sympathy, honesty etc. In this paper attempt has been made to look into the relevance of Gandhian concept of value education in the reconstruction of today’s crisis ridden society.
