There is a growing number of efforts in neighboring fields looking either broadly at the impact of computing systems, or at that of specific ML or AI tools, including prominent initiatives such as dedicated research institutes, e.g., Data & Society and AI Now; as well as workshops and conferences, e.g., Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (FAT*) or AAAI/ACM Conference on AI, Ethics, and Society (AIES).
