Action Fraud definition

Action Fraud means so-called "click fraud" or "impression fraud,” or fraud of any other kind, whether in any automated or human way, including, without limitation, by the use of a person, an automated script or a computer program (for example, online robots or "bots") to click or otherwise activate any form of view, response mechanism, annotation or advertising unit, or any other fraudulent means, to increase views, impressions, skew results or imitate a legitimate user of a web or mobile browser or other software application for viewing on any device, for example, by clicking on an ad unit for the purpose of generating an improper click value and generating revenue.

Examples of Action Fraud in a sentence

  • If money has been taken from your account and we think you're the victim of crime, we may report this to the police or to Action Fraud.

  • It is unclear at this time what the scale of the threat/risk is, as West Mercia Police are developing an understanding in conjunction with the national agency Action Fraud.

  • If the Commissioner's office detects a major security-related incident, for example an attack by malware or data security breach, the Commissioner will need to report the incident to the following: • the National Cyber Security Centre to report the incident online (or the NCSC incident helpline – 0300 200 973 if there is no access to ICT); • the Police (Action Fraud); • Information Commissioner’s Office: • relevant insurance companies; and • refer to the National Cyber Security Centre guidelines.
