Acquaintance is someone with whom the individual has had at least a first-hand relationship within the preceding three (3) months. The acquaintance exemption may not apply, however, if a Representative makes a habit of “card collecting” with everyone she/he meets and subsequently calls them, as the FTC may consider this a form of telemarketing. Therefore if a Representative engages in calling acquaintances, she/he must do so only on an occasional basis.
