Accessory dwelling unit or ADU definition

Accessory dwelling unit or ADU means an attached or a detached residential dwelling unit, a detached residential dwelling unit, or a conversion of space to a residential dwelling unit that provides complete independent living facilities for one or more persons and is located on a parcel with a proposed or existing primary dwelling. It shall include permanent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation on the same parcel as the single-family or multifamily dwelling is or will be situated. Accessory dwelling unit or ADU means a second dwelling unit added onto, created within or detached from an existing single‐family detached dwelling for use as a completely independent or semi‐independent unit with provisions for cooking, eating, sanitation and sleeping. Accessory dwelling unit or ADU means an ancillary or secondary living unit, not to exceed nine hundred (900) square feet in size, that has a separate kitchen, bathroom and sleeping area, existing either within the same structure, or on the same lot, as the primary dwelling unit.
