Over the past few years the County of Santa Cruz has experienced steady increases in congestion and associated traffic collisions on its road system due to a number of reasons, including increased commuter traffic related to the population growth. At this time, the County Public Works Department does not have an automated Traffic Collision Database Program that can be utilized for pinpointing and analyzing higher than average traffic collision locations and correlating these statistics to needed safety improvements. Traffic engineering staff must now compile information by a labor intensive method due to the limitations of the existing program.
