As we consider a waste agreement for the City of Oakland, we should act to prevent harm to the public. The prior recommended proposal (submitted to us as option 1 by the mayor/administration) would create an expensive monopoly agreement that would raise rates dramatically and create new risks of lack of service that were not previously disclosed to us, while undermining the people of Oakland financially and posing a threat to the public’s health.
