Eight Canadian conservation organizations have sent a joint letter to Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay urging the navy to exclude training exercises from the critical habitat of southern resident killer whales. The letter follows the death of a young female orca in early February. A similar letter has been sent to the US Secretary of the Navy by eighteen US conservation groups.
