FiledMarch 1st, 2000The impact of rapid population migration, land development, and industrial growth has increased the importance of properly managing environmental resources. One of the most important environmental indicators and, in many cases the least visible, is watershed viability. Watersheds have become the focus of significant efforts on the part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). These agencies have developed programs related to the protection of watersheds and outreach activities aimed at educating the public and decision-makers about the importance of their local watersheds. The PADEP Watershed Notebooks have become an important addition to the agency’s Internet site.
