The general purpose of this Agreement is to ensure for the Company, the Guild and the Deck and Engineer Officers, as defined herein and employed by the Company on the full benefit of orderly and legal collective bargaining and to ensure to the utmost extent practicable, the safety and physical welfare of the said Deck and Engineer Officers, economy of operation, standard of service and protection of property. It is recognized by this Agreement to be the duty of the Company, the Guild and the Deck and Engineer Officersto cooperate fully, individuallyand collectively for the advancement of said conditions.
