The participants (see appendix 1) were welcomed by Mr. Damir Trut, Director of the Croatian National Protection and Rescue Directorate. In his opening address Mr. Trut underlined that Dubrovnik has suffered from earthquakes and has survived due to the measures adopted to face them over the past centuries. This fact illustrates the importance of systematically including Disaster Risk Reduction in policies and Croatia is taking steps towards the creation of a National Platform including all actors in the area. He also emphasized that Croatia is proud to be an active member of the EUR-OPA Agreement and looks forward to an increased involvement.
