UM has developed, at laboratory-scale, a bioprocess which produces bacterial polyhydroxyalkanoates (abbreviated as PHA) using palm oil, palm kernel oil and their derivatives as primary carbon source (“the research findings”) under a Research and Development (“R&D”) project (“the Project”) funded by IRPA. The project has already produced six Master-degree theses and several research papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. The project is currently undertaken by two Ph.D. students and three Master-level students.
