Request for Council ActionDelaware • June 24th, 2016
Jurisdiction FiledJune 24th, 2016The City currently uses meter reading software that was purchased from Sensus. The setup of the system requires two physical servers including an input device that takes in reading data and sends the data to a second server to be placed into the software for billing. Both of these computer servers are scheduled for replacement this year and would cost approximately $17,000 for hardware and operating software. The computers are located at City Hall and are connected with a DSL line that runs from the water tower to City Hall that costs $90/mo. The DSL line will be updated to a fiber connection with Jaguar which will provide more stable and reliable transmission of data at a lower cost of $50/mo. The antenna and transceiver located at the water tower which pulls data and sends it to the computer for utility billing will be upgraded and will greatly improve the flow of data. The current system is often interrupted by poor connectivity to the hardware and a manual reset is necessary. Data
