It first reviews the requirements for the geoportal as well as the state-of-the-art portal technologies. Then, it draws upon the experience gained at the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation at ETH Zurich and at the Groundwater Engineering Research Centre (CCIAS) at the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest to bring additional insights into the possible solutions for a geoportal. Finally, it defines and describes the chosen architecture and design for the geoportal. This project was funded by the Romanian-Swiss Research Programme.
