Bell Atlantic - Maryland, Inc. (“BA-MD”) and Metromedia Fiber Network Services, Inc. (“Metromedia”) respectfully submit for the Commission’s approval, pursuant to Sections 251 and 252 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (the “1996 Act”)1, the attached Interconnection Agreement dated April 29, 1999 (the “Agreement”). The Agreement provides for the interconnection of the two companies’ networks and makes available to Metromedia access to unbundled network elements, wholesale telecommunications services, and ancillary services offered by BA-MD. The Agreement is an important step towards comprehensive local competition in Maryland as envisioned by the Commission’s decisions in Cases 8584 and 8587 and by Congress in the 1996 Act. BA-MD and Metromedia, therefore, respectfully requests that the Commission act within the 90 days specified by the 1996 Act and approve the Agreement.
