The lay pioneer and incumbent need to come to a common understanding of the work to be done; this includes its place in the wider mission of the church and appropriate support & review. Undertaking this exercise is intended to facilitate the development of effective lay ministry in the life of the parish. Because all effective ministry will develop and change over time this form should be viewed rather as a starting point from which ministry may grow rather than as a restrictive statement of what it should remain.
