Truro. We are coming to the end of our year’s hooking at Saint David’s United Church. Our last meeting will be at ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇’▇ cottage, with a bag lunch and hopefully lots of sunshine. If no sun, well, this group will still have a great time. In February, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇, a local biologist, farmer and felt-and-fiber artist came to our group with a truck- load of sheep’s wool, tools, dyes etc. to show us the amazing world of felting. We dyed wool with kool-aid mixed with vinegar to make such wonderful colours - robin’s egg blue and passion purple. This process was done in the microwave in minutes. She then showed us how to felt various types of wools and how to layer them to give beautiful effects, be it a fox in the ▇▇▇▇▇ or a group of adventurers rafting down a river. The use of raw fibres can be used in hooking projects for added dimension. March kept us busy planning a mat to donate to our local hospital for their fund-raising campaign. Each week one member hooks a part of the mat. It is quickly taking shape. It is a vegetable mat and the colours are lovely. We were also busy planning for our hook-in at Old Barns. We had a great time with over 103 people in ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ with new “honorary member” of Colchester Heritage Rug Hooking Group, ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇. attendance. I was told that I needed to be more careful when using the announcement, “Ladies! Ladies! May I have your attention?” I apologized to the three gentlemen who attended. I hope that you still felt part of the group. Please come again next year. We surprised ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ this year by making her an honorary member of our group. She was speechless (how couth THAT be?). Thank you, ▇▇▇, for all that you have given of yourself to the Colchester Heritage Rug Hookers. I was very happy to have my daughter’s mother-in-law- to-be, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇, come from Scotland to attend a wedding shower help in April. While she was here she came to one of our weekly sessions and with a kit I had given her and some wonderful help from ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇, she began hooking. What can I say? She is hooked! I received e-mail from her recently in which she expressed a desire to buy some supplies and a cutter. Perhaps by next year she would like to come for a visit and go to Rug School. ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ was recently taken to hospital with sever asthmatic attach. Our prayers are with her and we hope to see her again soon. We are starting to make some plans for this summer and hope to attend the local hook-ins. Eight members are planning to go to Yarmouth ...
