Thrust Blocking Clause Samples

The Thrust Blocking clause defines the requirements for installing physical supports to counteract the forces generated by pressurized fluid in pipelines, particularly at bends, tees, or dead ends. In practice, this involves placing concrete or other approved materials at strategic points to prevent pipe movement or separation due to internal pressure surges. The core function of this clause is to ensure the structural integrity and safety of the piping system by preventing failures caused by uncontrolled thrust forces.
Thrust Blocking. 1. The parameters involved in the design of thrust blocks shall include pipe size, maximum system pressure, angle of the bend, (or the configuration of the fitting), and the horizontal bearing strength of the soil. Bearing surface should, where possible, be placed against undisturbed soil. Where it is not possible, the fill between the bearing surface and undisturbed soil must be compacted to at least 90% Standard ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ density. 2. Thrust blocks shall be used wherever there is a change in horizontal direction, and on dead ends. On vertical down and vertical up bends, restrained glands are required (see Section
Thrust Blocking. Thrust block size shall be determined by North Park Public Water District. 3. Thrust blocks shall be P.C. concrete, a minimum twelve (12) inches thick, formed between the pipe, or fitting and the undisturbed trench wall, and shall be, anchored in such a manner that the pipe and fitting joints will be accessible for repairs. 4. Recommended alternative to thrust blocking in most situations would be the use of Restrained Glands (see Section 2.07 Restrained Gland Specifications).
Thrust Blocking. Replace the first, second, and sixth paragraphs in this section with the following: Force main and water main shall be installed in accordance with AWWA C600 for iron pipe, AWWA C605 for PVC pipe, and AWWA M55 for HDPE pipe. All plugs, caps, tees, hydrants, bends, and other fittings for water mains and force mains shall be provided with restrained joints. The minimum length of pipe to be restrained shall be as shown in the following table: REQUIRED LENGTH OF RESTRAINED PIPE BEYOND FITTING IN FEET 90 Degree inches) 36 90 Degree Bend (8 inches to 10 inches) 54 90 Degree Bend (12 inches to 14 inches) 72 90 Degree Bend (16 inches) 84 45 Degree inches) 18
Thrust Blocking. A. Provide concrete thrust blocking in accordance with the Standard Detail. B. Thrust blocking is not required where restrained joint fittings and equivalent length of restrained joint pipe are used unless otherwise required by the Town.
