Common use of Startup Failure Clause in Contracts

Startup Failure. An outage that results from the inability to synchronize a unit within a specified startup time period following an outage or Reserve Shutdown. A startup period begins with the command to start and ends when the unit is synchronized. An SF begins when the problem preventing the unit from synchronizing occurs. The SF ends when the unit is synchronized or another SF occurs. MO Maintenance Outage – An outage that can be deferred beyond the end of the next weekend, but requires that the unit be removed from service before the next planned outage. (Characteristically, a MO can occur any time during the year, has a flexible start date, may or may not have a predetermined duration and is usually much shorter than a PO.)
