Single Pipes. 1) Outside Diameter Less than 4 inches: trench 4 inches greater on each side of the pipe. 2) Outside Diameter 4 inches to 12 inches: trench 6 inches greater on each side of the pipe. 3) Outside Diameter Greater than 12 inches to 24 inches: trench 8 inches greater on each side of the pipe. 4) Outside Diameter Greater than 24 inches: trench 24 inches on each side of pipe.
