SHADOW REMOVAL. The bounding box generated by the vehicle detection step often includes any shadow associated with the vehicle of interest. In these cases, it is often necessary to remove this shadow to obtain the true vehicle dimension and avoid introducing bias into the length estimates. Below are presented investigations of several shadow removal algorithms, as well as the algorithm employed in this study.
