Common use of Sample Splitting Clause in Contracts

Sample Splitting. Samples of Product Sand taken from the Belt are reduced to testing size according to ASTM C 702 (Standard Practice for Reducing Samples of Aggregate to Testing Size). The samples are to be reduced using a xxxxxx splitter (mechanical splitter) that has a minimum of twelve openings and is acceptable for use for fine aggregates. The sample is split into four parts (respectively parts “#1”, “#2”, “#3” and “#4”) by allowing the material to fall through the chutes of the mechanical splitter in accordance with ASTM C 702 until a sample weight of approximately 300 grams is reached for parts #1, #2, #3, and #4. Within 24 hours of preparing each sample, SSS may collect parts #2, #3, and #4 of each sample as properly labeled by Contractor, including the date, time, and location of the sampling. SSS shall hold parts #3 and #4 of each sample for a period of not less than twenty (20) days.
