REQUIRED TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. The translator will work on individual assignments of translation from English to Vietnamese and vice versa for up to 400 pages (average 300 words/page) of source documents throughout the contract period. S/he is expected to deliver high-quality translation of public information products, including technical papers, brochures and web contents, in a timely fashion. The translator is expected to: - Read through original material and translate it into the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained. The translator is expected to translate the entire English-language text of each document into the riparian language and vice versa, including section titles, headlines, sub-heads, standfirsts, photo captions, references and pull-quotes; - Use specialist dictionaries and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used. The translator will need to consult with the OCEO and/or the authors to resolve ambiguities or other difficulties with the translation of colloquialisms or turns of phrases or specialist jargon; - Provide a grammatically correct final version of the translated text, usually as a word- processed document; and - Proofread, edit, and revise translated materials. The translator will submit the finished versions of the translations to the OCEO. If the OCEO requests certain sentences or parts to be translated more appropriately/accurately, the translator will provide a second version of the translation, taking into account the suggestions. - For news articles and press releases, translations should be completed within one working day, ideally within a few hours of assignment, understanding that this is “news”. Source language (English) text will be provided all in the Word format, with the designed publications as reference if available.

The assignment requires the consultant to draft English text for brochures and leaflets and other public information materials on the MRC work as well as to produce the updated version of the MRC Style Guide: Public information materials: - Reviewing technical publications and other relevant materials; - Designing a work schedule to be discussed with the OCEO team; - Consulting the OCEO team and other relevant offices to determine key messages to be reflected in drafting texts; - Meeting with MRC specialists in person or remotely to gather information on the subject matters; - Drafting, editing and proofreading texts on the discussed MRC work for public information materials; - Revising and finalizing the texts following feedback from the OCEO and other relevant offices; - Assisting the in-house graphic designer and/or a design consultant in designing brochures and leaflets of the above public information by suggesting a prototype design and suitable images to accompany the texts, and editing the texts in the design process; and - Further revising the texts for re-use on the MRC website and other dissemination channels, if required. MRC Style Guide: - Reviewing MRC Style Guide, Branding Guideline and MRC Admin Manual on Communication part to determine the scope of update for the new Style Guide; - Designing a work schedule of the assignment to be discussed with the OCEO team; - Providing a suggested update of the Guide, following discussion with OCEO team; and - Revise and finalize the updated Style Guide. The OCEO will provide details of the assignments and available relevant documents and materials to the consultant.

The required tasks and responsibilities of the Regional Consultant are summarized as follows: ◻ Review all relevant documents including the Basin Development Strategy 2021-2030, the Strategy for Basin-wide Environmental Management (SBEM) 2021-2025, the Basin-wide Fisheries Management Strategy (BFMS) 2018-2022, the Project-Based Action Plan for the SBEM, the regional guidance for the preparation of new or updated management plans for priority environmental assets of regional importance, the IUCN Green List standard and guidelines, the Gap Analysis, Action Plan and Project Plan for each of the initial four nominated environmental assets, any existing management plans for the four environmental assets, and any other relevant reports and policies that relate to the management and conservation of the sites in each country; ◻ Undertake desktop research and consultation with relevant national agencies, site managers, development partners and others involved in the management of protected areas to identify their funding priorities, funding modalities and opportunities for resource mobilisation from national budgets and development partners to improve management of environmental assets for conservation outcomes; ◻ Identify templates and other funding proposal requirements for priority funding opportunities and collect and complete required information in consultation with national agencies; ◻ Prepare the first drafts of funding strategies and funding proposals for each Member Country for developing new or updated management plans or improving their implementation consistent with the Gap Analysis and Action Plan for the nominated priority environmental asset of regional importance; ◻ Participate in and help facilitate regional and national consultation meetings, either in-person or online, prepare presentations and present the key features of proposed funding strategies and funding proposals and solicit feedback from national agencies; ◻ If Member Countries decide to nominate an environmental asset to the IUCN Green List, prepare the necessary nomination material including the drafting of explanatory text for each criteria explaining how the asset meets the Green List criteria and indicators; ◻ Provide expert support and assistance to Member Countries, including through support to Project Team meetings, for the establishment of Green List governance arrangements including the identification and nomination of people to the Expert Assessment group for the Green List (...
