The guideline was developed to selected appropriate management options for the specific sludge production from WWTPs. The guideline comprises five volumes, whereby volume 2 defines the requirements for the agricultural use of sludge. The key principle is to select the sludge disposal option based on a simple classification according to three sludge characteristics parameters: Microbiological Class, Stability Class; and Pollutant Class. The pollution level is defined by the presence of heavy metal contents as shown in Table 2-3 and compared to the current EU regulation in place.
