Professor. Appointment or promotion to the rank of professor is based on evidence of sustained excellence in teaching. In addition, the candidate shall either: (a) have an outstanding record as a scholar or creative artist, or (b) shall demonstrate sustained outstanding intellectual leadership in his or her field. Evidence of reputation in the discipline or a related discipline beyond the local community is required. In rare instances, promotion to the rank of professor may be based in significant part upon sustained and generally acclaimed leadership in the realization of the mission of the University. The evaluation shall be made in accordance with the standards set forth in Article 12.14 of this Agreement.
