Preceptor Program. Explanation and definition: An essential component of the orientation of new staff and newly transferred employees is an experienced co-worker to facilitate the transition from new employee/transferred employee to a contributing member of the staff. The goal of the preceptor program is to facilitate a smooth transition of the new staff/newly transferred technical employee (orientee) into a new environment by recognizing his/her individual needs. The preceptor’s role is to assist the orientee to adjust to the organization, environment, functions, and responsibilities through a planned approach to the unit orientation.
