Common use of Portfolio Based Evaluation Clause in Contracts

Portfolio Based Evaluation. a. The member shall self-assess teaching proficiency by completing the CSTP Continuum. This shall be done by assigning to each of the California standards in accordance with the directions on the top of the rubric. The member shall submit the Continuum, along with a request to be considered for the portfolio evaluation option (in writing), to the evaluating administrator. b. The evaluator and member shall meet no later than the 30th day of instruction to identify two standards around which to structure the portfolio evaluation. Both selected standards should be from among those rated as an area for growth or inquiry on the CSTP Continuum. The member and administrator will mutually determine a way in which these standards might be assessed by looking at student work, or other educational output if student work is not relevant to the standard. After agreeing upon the areas of focus, the teacher will create a rubric to be used to assess the collected product. c. The member shall collect student work that represents high and low achievement with respect to the selected CSTP’s. This work will be added to portfolio, digital or otherwise, and will be reviewed by the evaluator by December 31st The evaluator and member will reflect on student work and review the plans to improve the lower level product in the second semester. This may be as simple as affirming the plan developed at the start of the year, or may mean adjusting the original plan, as necessary. The member will submit a written self-reflection as part of this analysis. d. The member and evaluator will meet again no later than 30 days before the last day of school to review a second set of work product (i.e. student work), to be added to the portfolio by the member. This time, however, rather than selecting low level work, if possible, the work of the same students from among the lower level performers from the first semester will be reexamined. The member and evaluator will have a final discussion of successes and room for improvement. e. It is to be understood that the Summative Evaluation, completed by the Evaluator, will be based on the thoughtfulness and effort with which the member works towards the selected standards, and not upon their complete mastery of the CSTP’s.
