PGO Philosophy. 2 a. The primary focus of evaluation shall be to improve teaching and encourage 3 professional growth. The Professional Growth Option, hereafter referred to 4 as PGO, is a process which is teacher-centered, encourages peer sharing and 5 support, and includes self-evaluation and goal setting. This process is 6 separate from the traditional, summative review and all observation and 7 comment related to PGO, with the exception of the PGO verification form, 8 shall not be included as part of the employee's permanent record.
9 b. The supervisor and the staff member share the responsibility for PGO. The 10 fundamental activity of this option is the development of specific teaching 11 and/or direct job-related goals between the staff member and the supervisor.

The 18 fundamental activity of this option is the development of specific teaching 19 and/or direct job-related goals between the staff member and the supervisor. 20 The number of goals is less important than the form and substance of the 21 goals and in most cases would range from one to four. Normally the goals 22 would be established in accordance with their potential impact on student 23 learning.
24 c. Peer involvement is heartily encouraged as a part of PGO. Individuals may 25 elect to use colleagues in observation, data collection or as collaborators.
