Permanent Positions. When a full-time or regular part-time position is created for longer than one school year, that position shall be added to Appendix "A". A "regular part-time position" shall be defined as a position with a job description and a regular daily schedule of work.
Permanent Positions. Where a permanent vacancy occurs in a classification within the bargaining unit or a new position within the bargaining unit is established by the Hospital, such vacancy shall be posted for a period of seven (7) consecutive working days. Applications for such vacancy shall be made in writing within this seven (7) working day period. The postings will stipulate the qualifications, number of positions, location (department, unit area, and/or worksite), shift, classification, rate of pay and a copy shall be provided to the Union. Whenever possible, the Hospital will endeavour to place the successful applicant not later than thirty (30) days following his/her selection. Vacancies created by the filling of an initial permanent vacancy will be posted for a period of three (3) consecutive working days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. Applications for such vacancies shall be made in writing within the three (3) working day period referred to herein. In matters of promotion and staff transfer appointment shall be made of the senior applicant able to meet the normal requirements of the job. If an employee is required to attend an interview during regularly scheduled working hours, the employee shall suffer no loss of earnings from regularly scheduled hours as a result of attending the interview. The name of the successful applicant will be posted on the bulletin board for a period of seven (7) calendar days. Wherever possible, the Hospital will endeavour to start the successful applicant in the position not later than thirty (30) days following his/her selection. Where there are no successful applicants from within this bargaining unit for vacant positions referred to in this Article, employees in other OPSEU bargaining units at the Hospital will be selected in accordance with the criteria for selection above, and prior to considering persons who are not members of OPSEU bargaining units at the Hospital. The employees eligible for consideration shall be limited to those employees who have applied for the position in accordance with this Article, and selection shall be made in accordance with this Article. The successful applicant shall be allowed a trial period of up to thirty (30) days, during which the Hospital will determine if the employee can satisfactorily perform the job. Permanent Positions. At the time of providing notice of layoff and throughout the notice period, the Employer shall identify any vacant positions within the bargaining unit. Employees receiving notice of layoff shall be offered, in order of seniority, direct assignment into any such vacant positions that is within 40km of the employee’s permanent work location, in classifications for which the maximum salary is no more than 5% above or no more than 15% below the maximum salary of the classification of the position from which the employee is being laid off and which they are qualified to perform the duties of the vacant position.
