Outside Unit Bumping Sample Clauses
The Outside Unit Bumping clause establishes the rules and procedures for employees to displace, or "bump," less senior employees in positions outside their current work unit during layoffs or workforce reductions. Typically, this clause outlines eligibility criteria, such as seniority requirements and qualifications, and may specify the order in which employees can exercise bumping rights across different departments or units. Its core practical function is to protect employee job security by allowing more senior workers to retain employment, even if it means transferring to a different unit, thereby providing a fair and transparent process for workforce adjustments.
Outside Unit Bumping. Employees outside of the bargaining unit who have been notified of layoff shall be entitled to "bump" back into bargaining unit position they have previously held within the first five (5) years of promotion. Bumping shall be on the basis of the seniority the employee had in the job classification they are seeking to bump into at the time of promotion. Any such bumping must be exercised in accordance with Article 27.5 above.
