A Horticulturist B may advance to Horticulturist A after five (5) years of satisfactory service in the job classification of Horticulturist B and the completion of advance coursework or workshops in botany and horticulture approved by the Director of Botanic Gardens. An employee in the Horticulturist A position may advance to Horticulturist after 2 years of satisfactory service as Horticulturist A. Those hired or advanced into the Horticulturist position must already possess or obtain a Core Pesticide Applicator's License within one (1) year of entering the classification. The Horticulturist shall advance to Senior Horticulturist after completing two (2) years of satisfactory service in the position and after obtaining additional licenses, certifications, or education in horticulture, plant science, environmental science, botany or related field(s) as approved by the Director of the Botanic Gardens. Advancement may be made sooner if warranted, in the good faith judgment of the Director of Botanic gardens, by the employee's job performance. Advancement is contingent on budgetary approval and operational needs.
