More Precision is Required in EIEPs In some instances, a distributor may legitimately claim compliance with an EIEP, but given the variation possible within many EIEPs, the data format provided by one distributor using a particular EIEP may differ from the data format provided by another distributor using the same EIEP. Even the most fundamental EIEP – EIEP 1: Detailed ICP billing and volume information – provides for six different file types, which directly results in unnecessary complexity in billing systems, and additional system development and testing costs. The customisation of systems to meet the variations adopted by each distributor adds additional costs and xxxxxx entry by traders into new distribution network areas. Some of these problems can be resolved by more precisely defining the EIEPs so that less variation is possible, and by mandating the use of more EIEPs. Where an EIEP provides for multiple different file types, a default file type should be specified in the event that the parties cannot agree on the appropriate type.
