Minimum bounding box method Sample Clauses

Minimum bounding box method. The minimum bounding box method calculates an extent of coordinates in x and y dimension. The extent is described by a minimal two-dimensional box, which contains all points of a cross-section. The position of a circle is calculated as the centroid of the minimum bounding box, and the radius of the circle is the mean distance of cross-sections' points from the center of the minimum bounding box. The minimum bounding box provides good estimation of a trunk position and diameter, when a point cloud covers each side of a tree girth. The minimum bounding box of a partly scanned tree is shifted towards a side with higher coverage by points. Examples
