LONGTERM SICKNESS a. Employees with less than ten (10) years service: When an employee has been off work due to illness or injury (regardless of whether the injury is covered by Worker’s Compensation) for a period of six (6) consecutive months a Metro physician shall examine the employee. If the physician determines that the employee is permanently unable to return to work, the employee shall be dropped from the payroll. If the physician determines that the employee will be able to return to work, the employee shall return on the date specified or be dropped from the payroll. b. Employees with ten (10) or more years of service: When an employee has been off work due to illness or injury (regardless of whether the injury is covered by Worker’s Compensation) for a period of six (6) consecutive months, the employee may be eligible for a Disability Pension as provided by this Agreement. The employee shall apply for the Disability Pension in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement relating to pensions and shall pension or return to duty in accordance with the Agreement.
