Graduate Study Clause Samples
The Graduate Study clause outlines the terms and conditions under which an individual may pursue advanced academic work beyond an undergraduate degree. Typically, this clause specifies eligibility requirements, application procedures, and any obligations or restrictions related to enrollment in graduate programs, such as maintaining a certain academic standing or obtaining prior approval. Graduate Study. The Board of School Trustees will grant, upon request, a maximum number of Leaves of Absence for Graduate Study that would equal five percent (5%) of the total certificated staff. Requests for leave must be submitted to the Board on or before April 1 of the calendar year the leave is to commence, and the Board must be informed on or before April 1 of the calendar year of the Teacher’s intent to return to the staff. A Teacher may request a renewal of the Leave of Absence for a second consecutive year after April 1 provided the Board has been informed that an application has been made for a second year of graduate study prior to April 1. A committee composed of Administrators and Manchester Teachers Association members shall be appointed and make recommendations to the Board when requests from one building or one department might impair the educational program of that department or building.

Graduate Study. One (1) credit hour will be given for each semester hour of a graduate level degree program when courses are pre-approved or are part of a pre-approved degree program awarded by a recognized institution of higher learning. Courses will be approved for tuition reimbursement and credit toward salary advancement on the salary schedule if the graduate level course or degree program is:
1. In the area in which the teacher is currently teaching, or is in the area in which the teacher is certified, or is based on teaching pedagogy; or
2. Deemed to be in the best interests of the District by the Superintendent; or
3. Part of any other program approved by the Superintendent.
Graduate Study. The Department of Community and Behavioral Health offers the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree in Public Health and the Doctor of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) degree in community health. The department also offers a graduate certificate in rural health and an interdisciplinary graduate certificate in gerontology in conjunction with the colleges of Nursing, Business and Technology, Medicine, Arts and Sciences, and Education. A limited number of students are admitted annually. Each applicant is evaluated on the basis of academic record and written personal statement.
Graduate Study. Graduate studies related to a field of the staff member’s professional responsibilities or in the general area of public education.
Graduate Study. A tenured unit member, upon request, shall be granted a leave of absence, without pay, for graduate study for a period of one (1) school year. Such request must be made prior to June 1st, of the school year preceding that for which leave is requested, except for extenuating circumstances as determined to the satisfaction of the Superintendent. He/she shall, upon return, be paid the salary he/she normally would have, had he/she not been on leave. The unit member shall notify the Board of Education of his/her intention to return by June 1st. No more than one (1) unit member shall be granted leave from any one department or grade at any one time.
Graduate Study. The District will pay a per annum differential of $35 per credit hour for pre-approved graduate study. Payment shall be made retroactive to the first day of the school year for graduate work submitted and approved by October 15th and retroactive to the 12th pay for graduate work submitted and approved by February 15th. Only graduate work that has been pre-approved by the Superintendent of Schools prior to enrollment shall be payable by the District. Graduate work with a Masters Program that culminates in permanent certification in the applicant’s tenure, area is automatically approved. Pre-approval shall be on forms provided by the District.
Graduate Study. Teachers may be granted, a t the discretion of the chief super- intendent of schools, temporary leave of absence with pay for graduate study when they are required to leave before the end of June, due to enrolment at educational institutions for a program of summer study, pro- vided the Board i s reimbursed for the cost of substitute teachers who are employed due to the absence of the applicable teachers. The costs of substitute teachers employed i n these situations shall be shared equally by all teachers who received temporary leaves of absence under the terms of this article. A teacher may be granted, upon request, a t the discretion of the chief superintendent of schools, up to one day's leave with pay a t the time of the birth of his child.
Graduate Study a. Undergraduate courses may be submitted for tuition reimbursement if the course will enhance the professional training of an Employee related to specific classroom teaching skills required in the District and provided the course has been approved in writing, in advance by the Superintendent or designee. In no case will an undergraduate course be counted for advancement by an Employee on the salary schedule.
b. The completion of one full school year in the District is required prior to participation in this program.
Graduate Study. (1) The teacher has completed at least seven (7) years of continuous full time employment within the district as a certificated employee.
(2) The teacher shall agree to devote the sabbatical leave of absence to study which will contribute to the teacher's educational growth.
(3) The teacher may request the unpaid leave for 1/2 year or a full year.
(4) Upon return from the full year unpaid leave, the teacher shall be placed at the next appropriate step on the salary schedule Ex.: 2006-2007 Step 10 2007-2008 Sabbatical 2006-2009 Step 11
(5) Upon return from the 2 year unpaid sabbatical leave, the teacher shall be placed on the next appropriate step on the salary schedule: Ex.: 2006-2007 Step 10 2007-2008 year Sabbatical Step 11 2008-2009 Step 12
(6) It shall be the professional responsibility of the teacher to submit documentation of satisfactory completion of at least nine (9) credit hours of graduate study for a 2 year sabbatical and eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate study for a full year
