FLASH POINT. The flash point of a fuel is the temperature at which fuel vapors will flash when ignited by an external flame. The flash point is regulated for safety in fuel handling and storage. By itself it is not critical to turbine operation although it can affect the requirements for auxiliary equipment such as motors, relays, heaters, etc. Minimum permissible flash points are regulated by local, state or federal laws. Explosion-proofing of equipment may be required by local, state or federal regulations or other applicable codes when the flash point is below a minimum permissible value.
