FEDERATION RELEASE TIME. At the discretion of the Bargaining Unit, the Board shall grant up to two Secondary Unit Officers leaves of absence from teaching duties to fulfil the responsibilities inherent to the office. The cost of providing this release time shall be paid as follows: The Board shall pay a maximum of of one salary and the Board’s proportionate share of benefits. The Association shall pay of the President’s release time. All additional costs shall be paid by the Bargaining Unit at the rate of Year 0 plus benefits pro-rated in relation to additional release time. It is understood that this release time shall be without loss of salary, benefits, sick leave credits, experience and/or seniority. Salary and benefits shall be administered by the Board through the normal payroll process. Upon completion of their term as Unit Release Time Officers, the Teachers shall return to their position unless otherwise mutually agreed upon by the parties. In the event that the Unit Release Time Officer(s) is unable to perform his/her duties for a period of more than twenty consecutive school days due to injury or illness, the Unit may appoint another Teacher as Interim Unit Release Time Officer(s) until the Unit Release Time Officer(s) is able to return to his/her duties as Unit Release Time Officer(s). The cost of the replacement shall be borne by the Bargaining Unit. The Board shall grant a leave to the Teacher named by the Bargaining Unit as Interim Unit Release Time Officer(s) during the period of the appointment noted in The cost of the replacement shall be borne by the Bargaining Unit.

However, if the absences required for such purposes are covered by an Occasional Teacher, the Bargaining Unit shall reimburse the Board one half the cost of the coverage. The Board shall provide release time for up to eight (8) members of the Bargaining Unit Negotiating Committee to attend meetings with the Board for the purpose of negotiating the Collective Agreement or its renewal, without loss of benefits, sick leave credits, seniority and equivalent teaching experience. FEDERATION RELEASE TIME a) Effective September 1, 2008, the Employer agrees to provide up to three (3) FTE Federation leaves for Federation business. This release time shall be provided to the Federation Officers who are identified by the Federation, provided that the Federation shall reimburse the Employer at the salary rate of Category 3, step 0, of the salary grid and any allowances as directed by the Federation for the first two (2) leaves, and full grid salary, any allowances as directed by the Federation, insured and statutory benefits for the third FTE leave (if exercised). b) The Federation Officers shall be paid as full-time teachers, including any allowances as directed by the Federation. Federation Officers are entitled to all benefits and privileges of the Collective Agreement, during the period of the leave. c) A member returning from Federation release time to active employment shall be reinstated to the position which the member held prior to the leave due to Federation release time. If the position no longer exists, the member shall be placed in a comparable position in the system. Notwithstanding this provision, the member's return to active employment is subject to L19.00 –
FEDERATION RELEASE TIME. A Teacher who is granted a leave will ensure that, prior to beginning the leave, arrangements have been made regarding payment of the benefit premiums for the period of the leave. The Teacher will also ensure that, prior to returning from the leave, necessary steps have been taken to ensure that good standing has been maintained with the Ontario College of Teachers and that proof of good standing has been provided to the Human Resource Services Department.
