Fault Management Requirements. The OAM functionalities defined in ITU-T Y.1731 [Y-.1731] together with continuity check and connectivity verification must be supported for Ethernet connections. The Network Element must be able to notify the NMS of events or alarms. The key alarm types are: • OAM generated alarms o Remote defect indication o Loss of continuity • General equipment alarms, such as Power Loss • Interface alarms o Link down, etc… The key information that must be reported is: • The time of the event/alarm condition • Identification of the alarm condition • Identification of the entity responsible for the event The events may be reported to the NMS via SNMP Version 2 Trap or Inform or via NETCONF Event Notifications defined in RFC 5277 [RFC5277].
