Evaluating Impact design and implement baseline assessments to enable evaluation of the impact of SPACE supported activities, and contribution to transformative change across the programme. The SPACE-EL team could potentially be engaged in larger evaluation studies of relevant government or large scale programmes where opportunities arise.
Evaluating Impact. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted an evaluation of the program in 1985-86. Several issues were discovered through this evaluation. These included lack of impact on anemia prevalence, poor IFA supply, low quality IFA tablets, and insufficient monitoring of IFA distribution. Authors also highlighted that the supplementation strategy was broadly seen as a “low priority” program. Based on this evaluation, ICMR recommended the following actions:
