Dene Tha'. (1) Dene Tha' People and Territory 7 The Dene Tha' is an Aboriginal group within the meaning of section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982 and an Indian Band under the Indian Act. Currently, there are approximately 2500 members of the Dene Tha', the majority of which resides on the Dene Tha's seven Reserves. All Dene Tha' Reserves are located in Alberta. The three most populous Reserve communities are Chateh, Bushe River, and Meander.

NWT, the Dene Tha' claims that its territory overlaps with that of the Deh Cho First Nation, with whom the Dene Tha' shares significant familial and cultural relationships. The Crown asserts that the phrase "Traditional Territory" imports no legal significance with respect to the Aboriginal rights claimed by the Dene Tha' north of the 60 parallel -- the division between the NWT and the Province of Alberta.
