Counterweights. Counterweight cradles shall be designed to prevent weights from falling out. The use of mechanical springs instead of counterweights is not permitted. Where counterweights travel in work areas and traffic areas, safety distances as in EN 294 and EN 349 shall be maintained, or suitable guarding shall be provided to ensure that any falling counterweight is contained.
