Contribution to policy developments Clause Samples

Contribution to policy developments. One of the four principal activities of euCognition is devoted to scientific outlook. This activity has the explicit objective of identifying those issues that are crucial to the development of the discipline overall. Among other instruments, these will be summarized in a research roadmap that will be developed in the network. We expect this roadmap to contribute directly to the development of policy.
Contribution to policy developments eu-DOMAIN will contribute to general EU policies in the following areas: 5.7.1. Quality of life and health and safety
Contribution to policy developments. In Europe, CD has been on the scientific agenda since the 1950’s, however, increasingly so during the last twenty years. In comparison, in U.S and globally CD has only recently been recognized as a frequent health problem. By PREVENTCD the European researchers within their respective field, and the industry involved, will keep and strengthen the leading role of Europe in the frontline of CD research worldwide. Success within this research area can only be reached by an integrated European research effort, taking advantage of all the currently available European knowledge and know-how with the large range of disciplines involved. Moreover the participation of the large number of families with CD necessary to carry out the study is only possible by collaboration among European countries with well-organized Coeliac Patients Societies. In this context the participation of the Association of European Coeliac Disease Societies (AOECS) is highly valuable. In addition, the “experiment in nature” that has taken place in Sweden during and after national changes in early gluten consumption, offers a unique opportunity to study the effect of these changes in the primary prevention of CD in one big population of European pre- adolescents. The PREVENTCD partners are well established in the scientific community within their own countries, and also have international networks across Europe as well as globally. The Dutch partnership includes leaders of the Dutch Coeliac Disease Consortium (CDC), a project supported by the Dutch Government, which brings together partners from industry, patient community and Dutch knowledge-based institutions, to develop the scientific bases for safer foods and for effective diagnosis, prevention and therapy of CD. The coordinator of PREVENTCD, ▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇, and several of the partners (A ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, ▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇, and ▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇) are responsible for the EU funded project CDEUSSA (Food – CT- 2005- 517787) aiming, a.o., to create a European platform for future research on prevention and effective treatment of CD by a multidisciplinary approach to integrate basic scientific knowledge in clinical applications and food industry. This European platform offers an excellent opportunity to bring new knowledge into the project and will act as its Advisory Board.
Contribution to policy developments. The concept of an observatory is one of the foundations of civilisation and in archaeology is often interpreted as early step in progress of societies. Subsequently adopted by specialised e scientific culture observatories imply the conservation of data on parameters. Current observatory initiatives are often virtual systems based on information technology infrastructure from integrating of widely spaced scientific instrument to dissemination via interfaces such as “Google Earth”. Applying these concepts to the « deep sea frontier » of Europe is the objective of ESONET ▇▇▇, following previous initiatives and followed hopefully by permanent commitment of the European continent. ESONET ▇▇▇ will build the structure able to launch the collection of time series of parameters, for decades. In WP1, the Task b) is dedicated to this objective. The management of data and their quality assessment is central to the project: ESONET ▇▇▇ is related to the most experienced ocean data archiving teams and infrastructures in Europe. The knowledge of the consortium, gained in the ▇▇▇ will be disseminated through exchange of personnel, training and cooperation in international projects related to ocean observatory networks and to the international organizations in this field. Exploitation of the marine environment is increasing rapidly via fishing and bottom trawling, offshore hydrocarbon extraction, laying of deep-sea cables, mining for minerals on the seabed etc. It is clear that these activities must be regulated so that the exploitation is sustainable and the environment is not destroyed in the process. However, the deep-sea environment remains poorly known, both in terms of what is there and in terms of natural change that affects this environment. A small number of long time-series monitoring activities have been carried out and some of these have shown significant levels of natural change, but over time periods of several years. To understand deep-sea environments more thoroughly we therefore need state-of-the-art monitoring over an extended number of years in a number of key sites. The most comprehensive data sets will be produced by deep-sea observatories, such as via ESONET. The data provided will be fundamental to understanding the ocean environment and will be fed directly to policy makers so that they can make informed decisions. This will not occur under this ▇▇▇ but it is a crucial part of our long-term goal for the use of ocean observatories and the data genera...
Contribution to policy developments. The project will actively contribute to scientific policy developments in several ways.
Contribution to policy developments. EXPReS brings together the major radio observatories in Europe and beyond, together with various NRENs – some directly, others indirectly (via NA2). The goal of realising a reliable and robust real-time e-VLBI network will be a significant achievement that will influence the way in which major global scientific projects evolve – in particular the SKA. In addition, it will demonstrate to other research communities the transformational nature of high speed networks and will bring to the attention of regional, national and European funding agencies, the relevance of investing in research networks and the need for future investment in this area. Given that many of the EXPReS partners are also members of RadioNet, the success of EXPReS will be relevant to the development of radio astronomy within RadioNet’s mandate to coordinate the radio astronomy community within Europe, with particular reference to the construction of next generation (global) radio instruments.
Contribution to policy developments. Being a sister Project of EGEE, ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ will closely follow the international policy developments made in the context of EGEE Network Activity and Application Support and e-IRG. CYCLOPS will also contribute to policy developments via a number of its internal activities: - Enhancing collaboration between national protection communities, thus paving the way for educational, scientific and cultural exchanges, initiatives and projects across the borders. - Stimulating the sharing of the know-how in terms of Grid computing among the partners. - Facilitating research activities over a number of scientific sectors linked to the national protection, by providing access to the nascent e-Infrastructures to a wide spectrum of applications. - Encouraging the interaction of research communities and governmental bodies with the aim of gaining long-term support for e-Infrastructures. CYCLOPS aims to trigger these actions by involving the participating countries in latest developments and e-Infrastructure practices in computing and e- Science. The project is expected to improve the following knowledge-based society indicators along 3 distinct lines: 1) Providing cheaper, faster, secure and immediate access to computing and storage resources; 2) Investing in people and skills; 3) Exploiting the network infrastructures provided by GEANT and GEANT2. CYCLOPS will contribute to the GMES initiative, with particular attention on Long Term Sustainability issues, as far as the Civil Protection sector is concerned: this action will be pursued by disseminating and reusing CYCLOPS analyses and results at both the National and European level. In fact, the CYCLOPS Civil Protection agencies are fully part of the GMES working groups at the European level and are involved in GMES activities. For example, DPC and IMAA are involved in the Italian steering committee for the GMES programme and are part of European-funded projects on GMES (e.g. BOSS4GMES, OASIS, EURORISK-Preview). CYCLOPS will contribute to the INSPIRE initiative, as far as the ESDI (European Spatial Data Infrastructure) design and development is concerned. This action will be pursued by disseminating and reusing CYCLOPS analyses and results at both the National and European level in the INSPIRE framework. DPC and IMAA are among the initiator of an INSPIRE SDIC (Spatial Data Interesting Community) which is focused on GMES and INSPIRE technology harmonization, with particular attention on Grid solutions. Experts of such SDIC ar...
